#Every Baby Matters

Our pipeline of support starts in the First 1000 days through a programme of awareness-raising at local clinics, and a series of follow-up home visits that work with mothers and babies to strengthen early stimulation. Our Baby Treasure Box is a unique resource that supports and enables activities in the home.

Book-sharing and Multilingual Storytellers

We implement the Mikhulu booksharing approach with parents of children aged 0 – 5 years through a series of workshops in communities or at schools. In addition, we have a team of Multilingual Storytellers who hold regular storytelling and reading sessions at sites in the community, especially for young children who are not attending preschool.

Multilingual Preschool

The Centre has the Little Red Dragon Preschool on-site for 28 preschool children in their pre-Grade R year. The communication and instruction at the preschool happens in English, Afrikaans and isiXhosa in equal parts, which we believe is quite unusual. The preschool adheres to strong Learning through Play principles and was chosen as a Centre of Excellence by the Vice-Chancellor’s Education Initiative in 2021.
